Long Weekend--- Sao Vicente, Madeira

21-29/March/2016

We went to Madeira for a week or so. I had never been there, neither Marcus. So it was a bit of an adventure for us.

View from our bedroom

We flew from Gatwick airport, stayed a hotel for a night. We flew with Monarch to going to Madeira, return with Eazyjet. I must say, flight with Monarch was very pleasant, much better that Eazyjet or good old Rynair. I felt a bit more up-marketed with Monarch. Staffs were very friendly and nice, whereas Eazyjet, staffs were a bit grumpy and unfriendly.

Anyway, We flew to Funchal, got our cute hire car, drove to Sao Vicente where we met up with the landlady and her husband, also a lady who would over see our stay. They bought us a cup of coffee and it was bitter and delish. very strong coffee. Yum Yum, Also it was decaf too! Even decaf coffee tasted nicer than here. 😊 After check in and coffee and chat, we followed them to the villa. Casa Gingas. It was cute villa situated on under steep hill, I would imagine typical Portuguese house on the hill. It had a garden full of parsley and spring onions. Downstairs bed room and ground floor bedroom with bathroom. We decided to stay the ground floor bed room. Both bed rooms were en suit but we liked the ground floor one. There was upstairs, like attic room. Huge space used as storage space.

They showed us around, gave us emergency number, then they left. Only once we had to contact them due to Calor gas run out for our heater. Yes, it was a bit chilly in the evenings and mornings. There were plenty snuggle blankets ♥️ in the villa. We kept ourselves warm in the nights. I was, first of all,not happy, I thought Madeira would be really warm. Never mind. In the end, we had some sunny days and went out for swimming in the sea. I'll show you photos later. 😁

Our bedroom, very cozy♥️

Kitchen dinner

Fire place, tried to use it, but didn't work... smoke came into the house!

I did some yoga in the morning and afternoon in the attic room, but my yoga mat was very slippery, I gave up in the end for flow yoga, so I did it in the warm kitchen floor for some floor works whilst cooking. I think I needed that especially after long walks....

Stairs to upstairs attic room

The view from the back bedroom was cool, I could see the sea and mountain behind us. Some mornings, the mountains had cloud over them and reminded me a bit like La Gomera. 😍 (One day, we will be back!!! ) And Madeira was very green island. Loved it.

Apparently, Marcus's old ladies clients told him, there are flights from Stanstead now. We no longer need to fly from Gatwick! Nooooice. If you live this side of the country, going to Gatwick is a right pain, we love flying from Stanstead airport! Yey!🤗

Our cute hire car

Very steep slope to the house
By the way, car port/ park to the house is the bottom of this slope, it's on right hand side of this photo. Everyday, Marcus had to drove up to this slope. Gears did not sound happy....
