Long Weekend--- Walks PR16, Sao Vicente, Madeira

21-29/03/2016

Our Madeira holiday just started, we quickly went out for some walks. we did not really know what to expect. Luckily, the villa we stayed in had internet, so we could brows through some walks on the internet. We heard some beautiful lavada walks in Madeira, so wouldn't want to miss any of them.

Cute goat!

First day in Sao Vicente, we drove to our first walks, PR16. We got off the car and walked towards the footpath. Easy and clear footpath. We saw some goats! Continued to walk on the footpath. As we walked deeper into the footpath, we saw our very first Lavadas. This walks was easy, really flat and water taking you to the walks.

We bumped into this German couple, and told me we would need a torch to get through some tunnels, as one of them were really long.

Lavada!

Waterfall!

Walked through under the waterfall

First tunnel

We managed to walked though first tunnel without any issues, however, we found a bit difficult walking through I think the second one, it was loooong. So, we had to walk back.Otherwise wouldn't be able to see anything, just darkness..... We promised to each other, we would be back there following day to complete the walks.

Shame, we knew we were close to the end of the footpath, never mind. We drove round back to Sao Vicente.

We stopped by the road and watched some waterfalls. They were long, huge, and very wild. We imagined what other waterfalls were like in the island, and felt very excited.

More waterfalls!

In the following day, we kitted out with some torches and went back to the PR16 and completed the walks. Waterfalls everywhere in this island. That was why Madeira was so green. Shame, we did not take our water bottles this time on holiday, so we had to recycle our plastic bottles from the airport.

I thought those lavadas took all water for rivers etc, but later I realized if lavadas were not there, this island would be flooded with water!

Sao Vicente beach

That was our first lavada walks and had taste of walking through waterfalls, we couldn't wait for more!
